RAIN Communities, Inc.
Since 2002 RAIN Communities, Inc. (RCI) has partnered with the Human Service Agency of the County of Ventura to support RAIN Transitional Living Center (RAIN TLC) located at 1732 S. Lewis Road in Camarillo, California. Read below for recent updates.
Program History:
RAIN TLC was a transformative, nurturing environment for individuals and families that were homeless and struggling with barriers that interfered with daily living. It was home to more than 135 people each year featuring 16 rooms for families, 6 single rooms and several beds/room for residents with special circumstances. The average length of stay was RAIN is 8 – 12 months. Residents at RAIN were provided intensive case management services and resources to increase self-sufficiency and independence. 24/7 RAIN staff and counselors provided program oversight and addressed the complex needs of the adult residents while simultaneously focusing on programs that addressed the educational and emotional needs of the children. This multi-prong approach strengthened the bond between parents and their children and helped break the generational cycle of homelessness. The partnership between RCI and RAIN TLC, operated by the County of Ventura, resulted in measurable, long-term success stories.
Important Update:
As of April 2024, the County of Ventura has changed its service model from operating RAIN as a transitional living center to a model of bridge housing placing homeless families in motels and scattered site leased apartments. Consequently, the County has opted to permanently close RAIN TLC operations at the Lewis Road site. Although we are disappointed in the County’s decision, as an independent non-profit, RCI will continue to provide support to homeless families and will be expanding our services to help other homeless service providers in Ventura County. Our focus will continue to be women and children with the goal of helping them be safely housed and on a path to independence. This includes funding for groceries, transportation, rent and utility assistance, auto repairs, diapers, school supplies, and much more.
Thank You and Let’s Keep Working Together:
We are so appreciative of the decades of support from loyal RAIN donors. Together we have made such a difference in the lives of thousands of homeless women and children. Let’s keep working together to keep them safe, housed, and end generational poverty. Our all-volunteer board will continue to ensure all donations are impactful and wisely spent. We will provide more program updates soon.
