A Bridge to Permanent Housing

Since 1997, RAIN Transitional Living Center (RAIN) has provided housing and services to families and single adults in Ventura County, California, to help with the transition from homelessness to permanent housing.

Serving up to 70 people at a time in a home-like setting in Camarillo, RAIN provides nutritious meals; intensive case management services; employment assistance including transportation to work; life skills courses on topics such as money management, parenting, and relapse prevention; and privately-funded enrichment programs for children.

35%of homeless families are homeless for the first time

20%of homeless are “newly” homeless individuals (within the last 12 months).

6%of homeless individuals are fleeing domestic abuse

Every day we are surrounded by families that are struggling. Unforeseen financial circumstances, health issues, or a natural disaster can change life in an instant.

The person bagging your groceries, the cook preparing your meal, the kids who go to school with your kids… may not know where they will be sleeping tonight. These are the INVISIBLE HOMELESS.

California has one of the highest poverty rates in the country. Escalating rents have outpaced the growth in wages, leaving more families, particularly single, working moms, unable to secure housing.

Become A Partner In Transforming Lives

Homeless families and individuals, working to make a new start in life, need community support and comprehensive resources beyond the restrictions often attached to public funding.  RAIN Communities Inc. (RCI) is a nonprofit organization working in partnership with the County of Ventura to provide funding for program services, including licensed therapists, on-site childcare and enrichment activities for children and their parents, including social and educational field trips.

But we need your help!  Your partnership will make a difference!

Historically, over fifty percent (50%) of the residents at RAIN are children.  Arts and crafts, field trips to museums and theater, as well as other enrichment activities funded by RAIN Communities promote self-confidence, family bonding and contribute to an overall sense of belonging and normalcy.    You can partner with us by making tax-deductible financial or in-kind donations, volunteering and so much more.   Click on the button below for details.

From Resident To President

In 2006, my five-year-old son Kristopher and I were suddenly homeless and separated.  I was terrified I would lose “My Little Man”.   My only hope was my newfound faith and my discovery of RAIN Transitional Living Center. RAIN provided me and Kris with healthy meals and safe transportation to work and school enabling me to save money so that I could eventually secure my own housing and automobile.

Today Kris is a successful college student with endless possibilities for his future and I am enjoying the blessings of a lucrative career.  My life has come full circle and I’ve even recently purchased my first home!  And, here’s the fun part; after several years of speaking publicly on RAIN’s behalf, I joined the Board of Directors of RAIN Communities, Inc. and currently hold the gavel as President and Chairman of the Board! On behalf of all of the RAIN residents, past and present, Kris and I wish to thank you for supporting this amazing program!
